HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-2005-097 Surplus state flagRESOLUTION NO. R-2005 - 97 A RESOLUTION declaring one used flag as surplus and donating it to Corporal Leo Tapia. WHEREAS, the City of Yakima owns one used Washington State Flag, which is replaced from time to time; and WHEREAS, the City of Yakima has no immediate or foreseeable use for the Washington State Flag, which is surplus to the needs of the City; and WHEREAS, the Marine Corporal Leo Tapia has sent a letter to the Mayor requesting a flag from home to be flown in Iraq to represent what they are fighting for; and WHEREAS, the used flag has little or no monetary value and has been replaced and would soon be disposed of; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it would be in the best interest of the City to donate the Washington State Flag to Corporal Tapia now, rather than dispose of the flag, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City Council hereby declares Washington State Flag to be surplus to the needs of the City of Yakima and of little or no monetary value, and the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to donate said flag to Corporal Leo Tapia. George, Mayor Sue Ownby, Purchasing Manager SUMMARY EXPLANATION: Staff respectfully requests approval of a resolution, declaring Yakima City Hall's Washington State Flag to be surplus to the needs of the City of Yakima, and authorizing donation of the flag to Corporal Leo Tapia, who is serving in Haditha, Iraq with the 1st Tank Bn Aco 31d Pit. Corporal Tapia, who was raised in Yakima and is a proud citizen, has requested a flag from home to have it represent his hometown. The flag will be flown in Iraq to represent what they are fighting for. This flag is used and is replaced from time to time; therefore, it has little monetary value.
