ITEM TITLE: Acceptance of Council Nominating Committee minutes and
recommendation of reappointment of Gary Hudson to the Yakima
Housing Authority

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Council Nominating Committee recommends reappointment of Gary Hudson to the Yakima
Housing Authority as he has not served a full term (he was appointed in November of 2015 to fill
an unexpired term).

Chair Lover noted he saw the press release regarding the vacancies. Chair Lover and Council
Member Cousens excused themselves for five minutes to review and discuss candidate
qualifications in Executive Session.
City Clerk Tee reported to the Committee that the incumbent, Gary Hudson, was appointed in
November 2015 to fill an unexpired term. Chair Lover stated he feels they should reappoint Mr.
Hudson without conducting interviews of the applicants since Mr. Hudson has not completed a full
term. MOTION: Cousens moved and Lover seconded to reappoint Gary Hudson. The motion
carried by unanimous vote.
Clerk Tee noted there are no applicants that meet the qualifications for the Board of Appeals. She
reported there is one applicant for the Henry Beauchamp Jr. Community Center Advisory
Committee; which requires a recommendation from the Henry Beauchamp Jr. Community Center
Board of Directors. The Board meets on January 24, 2017 and should have a recommendation at
that time. It was Committee consensus to appoint the applicant, Maria DJ Rodriguez, to the Henry
Beauchamp Jr. Community Center Advisory Committee if recommended by the Board.
There was no other business other business. Chair Lover adjourned the meeting at 10:10 a.m.

Our records indicate that Gary Hudson's appointment to our Board of Commissioners
will expire on January 31, 2017.
1 am writing in my individual capacity as the Board's Chairman to request and
recommend that Gary be reappointed to the Housing Authority of the City of Yakima's
Board of Commissioners for another term. He is currently serving as the Vice -
Chairperson. Gary has served well in that role, and his experience would be most
valuable at the present time as YHA has continued to expand and develop under the
current organizational leadership.
Additionally, Gary brings invaluable experience in childhood education programs, due to
his work at EPIC. That experience is instrumental in fulfilling the mission of the Yakima
Housing Authority, and the people that we serve.
Retaining Gary Hudson as a Commissioner will allow our board to continue to function
in a manner which best serves the community.
