A RESOLUTION ratifying application for a grant in the total amount of $27,482
from the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice
Administration, for funding the Local Law Enforcement Block
Grant Program, and designating and authorizing the City Manager
to act as the official representative of the City of Yakima and to
take such additional steps, including but not limited to execution of
all necessary documents and contracts as may be necessary and
prudent to complete transactions associated with the grant.
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice has funds available to the City of
Yakima in the amount of $27,482 (less $2,748 for non Public Safety Officer's Health
Benefits "PSOHB" compliance) to reduce crime and improve public safety; and
WHEREAS, the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program contemplates an
inter -local agreement with Yakima County, whereby Yakima County will accept $3,710
(less applicable matching funds) from the grant for law enforcement activities, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Yakima held a public hearing and
deems it to be in the best interest of the City that it enter into an agreement for funding
for the purpose mentioned above, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
1. The $27,482 Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program grant
application filed by the Yakima Police Department with the U.S.
Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Administration is hereby ratified.
2. The City manager is hereby designated as the official representative for the
City for this grant, and is authorized and directed to accept the grant and to
take all necessary steps and execute all necessary documents and contracts
related to the grant on behalf of the City of Yakima.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The City has been invited to apply for a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of
Justice Assistance under the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program. The purpose of
the program is to reduce crime and improve public safety. The grant is requested in the
amount of $27,482. An adjustment of $2,748 will be made to the final award as the City is not
Public Safety Officer's Health Benefits "PSOHB" Compliant resulting in a final award to City of
$24,734. The attached resolution ratifies the grant application and authorizes the City
Manager to act as the official representative to accept the grant.
The grant will be used to Support law enforcement efforts by procuring equipment, technology
and other material directly related to basic law enforcement functions. The Local Law
Enforcement Block Grant Program contemplates an inter -local agreement with Yakima
County, whereby Yakima County has agreed to accept $3,710 (less applicable matching
funds) from the City's grant thus retaining $21,024 for the City's use.
