SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
Resolution authorizing an application for a grant from the Department of Interior, Bureau of
Reclamation's WaterSMART program in the amount of $63,500. The grant will be used to
increase the amount of low water use demonstration gardens at the Public Works Facility and
some downtown planting areas. WaterSMART grants require a 50% match, that match is satisfied
through a May 2015 grant of $50,200 from the Yakima Integrated Plan through the Department of
Ecology and a pledge of $20,000 from the Downtown Yakima Business Improvement District.
If this grant application is unsuccessful, a scaled-down version of the original project for low water
use demonstration gardens will still be completed.
