R-2002— 24 A RESOLUTION approving a $5,000 grant request from the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce, WorkSource Yakima, and the Workforce Development Council to be made from federal CDBG funds to assist with the costs of renting the Yakima Convention Center and associated costs pertaining to "Job Fair 2002." WHEREAS, the City of Yakima is a recipient of federal Community Development Block Grant funds which may be used, among other things, to provide economic development; and WHEREAS, the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce, WorkSource Yakima, and the Workforce Development Council is requesting a grant of $5,000 in CDBG funds to assist with the costs of renting the Yakima Convention Center and associated costs pertaining to "Job Fair 2002", and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it is in the best interest of the City to authorize and approve the $5,000 grant request from the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce, WorkSource Yakima, and the Workforce Development Council to assist with the costs of renting the Yakima Convention Center and associated costs pertaining to "Job Fair 2002," now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: 1. A grant of $5,000 in CDBG funds to the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce, WorkSource Yakima, and the Workforce Development Council for the purpose of assisting with the cost of renting the Yakima Convention Center and associated costs pertaining to "Job Fair 2002" is hereby authorized and approved, 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to execute all necessary grant documents, including a grant agreement, between the City of Yakima and the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce, WorkSource Yakima, and the Workforce Development Council. This event will make it possible for employers and employees to come together. This event may prove to be instrumental in bringing employment to those that are otherwise still unemployed. ONDS will also use this event to publicize the Renewal Community Tax Incentives. The Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce, WorkSource Yakima, and the Workforce Development Council are requesting the Office of Neighborhood Development Services to fund the cost of conducting "Job Fair 2002." The cost will be $5,000.00, which will cover the cost of renting the Yakima Convention Center and associated expenses. The Job Fair was approved by Council and funded in 1999 and 2000, and it resulted in an effective and productive use of funds. City support for this activity is an eligible CDBG expense and staff recommends use of this source of funding from the Council approved 2002 CDBG budget for economic development.
