R-2016-143 A RESOLUTION authorizing the City Manager to accept a Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality (CMAQ) grant of $497,375 for the 64th Avenue and Ahtanum Road Intersections Improvement project. WHEREAS, improvements are needed at the intersection of 64th Avenue and Ahtanum Road to improve the safety of said intersection, and WHEREAS, the 64th Avenue and Ahtanum Road Intersection Improvements project is included in the City's Six -Year Transportation Improvement Plan; and WHEREAS, the City of Yakima has been successful in securing a CMAQ grant for making improvements to this intersection; and WHEREAS, the City is in a position to supply the $77,625 in matching funds required; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City Manager is authorized to accept a Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality (CMAQ) grant of $497,375 for the 64th Avenue and Ahtanum Road Intersections Improvement project. For Meeting of: December 6, 2016 ITEM TITLE: Resolution authorizing a Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality (CMAQ) grant of $497,375 for the 64th Avenue and Ahtanum Road Intersection Improvement project SUBMITTED BY: Brett Sheffield, P.E., Chief Engineer 576-6797 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: On October 17, 2016, the City received a letter (attached) from the Yakima Valley Conference of Governments with notification that the City had been successful in their competitive application for a CMAQ grant to make improvements to the intersection of 64th Avenue and Ahtanum Road. The improvements include resurfacing the intersection and installing a traffic signal. The estimated project cost is $575,000. The CMAQ grant is for $497,375. The balance of the funding will come from gas tax revenues. The funding will be received as follows: $50,000 in 2018; $223,688 in 2019; and, $223,687 in 2020. In order for the City to receive the grant, the City must acknowledge acceptance of the CMAQ funding. Because CMAQ funds are subject to annual appropriations by Congress, YVCCIG cannot guarantee future estimates of CMAQ funding.
