A RESOLUTION authorizing the Yakima City Manager to accept a "Prehospital
Participation Grant" check for $1,200 from the State of Washington, Department of
Health, Office of Emergency Medical and Trauma Prevention. These funds, described in
the "Trauma Care Service Funding Act of 1997," are distributed to verified agencies for
expenditures made for the purposes of the state trauma care system.
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima through the Yakima Fire Department participates
in the Washington State trauma care system;
WHEREAS, the Yakima Fire Department has applied for and been awarded a
1998 Prehospital Participation Grant;
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima incurs Emergency Medical Services trauma care
expenses;
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima can use these funds for expenditures related to
Washington State trauma care system;
WHEREAS, the Yakima Fire Department strives to enhance safety and quality of
life through the provision of superior emergency medical services;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF YAKIMA:
1. The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to accept the "Prehospital
Participation Grant check for $1,200 from the State of Washington, Department of
Health, Office of Emergency Medical and Trauma Prevention.
2. The City of Yakima acknowledges that these funds are distributed to verified agencies
for expenditures made "for the purposes of the state trauma care system."
3. The City of Yakima acknowledges that these funds shall be used for expenses
incurred and related to emergency medical services for trauma care, including
administration and trauma equipment.

ITEM TITLE: Resolution of Acceptance of a grant from the State Depart-
ment of Health for Trauma Care, and an Ordinance amend-
ing the 1998 Budget.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Yakima Fire Department has received a "Pre -hospital Participation Grant" check
for $1,200 from the State of Washington, Department of Health, Office of Emergency
Medical and Trauma Prevention. These funds, described in the "Trauma Care
Service Funding Act of 1997," are distributed to verified agencies for expenditures
made for the purposes of the State trauma care system.
It is the intention of the Fire Department to utilize these funds to purchase trauma
equipment and to improve our reporting system with the Washington State Office of
Emergency Medical and Trauma Prevention. The result being the enhancement of
safety and quality of life through the provision of superior emergency medical
services for the citizens of Yakima.
The attached resolution authorizes the City Manager to accept this grant. The
attached ordinance increases both the resource and expenditure budgets in the
Emergency Services Fund 150.

Enclosed is your Prehospital Participation Grant check for $1,200! These funds, as
described in the Trauma Care Service Funding Act of 1997, are being distributed to
verified agencies for expenditures made "for the purposes of the state trauma care
system " (These may include expenses for administration and trauma equipment.)
Using information from license applications and the Washington State Fire Services
Directory, our office has created a database to record and monitor these new funds and
estimate local matching. This data demonstrates that your agency has incurred EMS
trauma care expenses. It is important that we build a comprehensive database to include
hov, hinds are being used. To assist us in our record keeping for these dedicated state
funds, we ask that you please complete the attached form and return it to our office
in the envelope provided. This information will be of particular significance should a
legislator, the Governor's office, or a member of the public ask how the trauma care
funds are being used in his or her community
