R-98- 7 3 modifying the Transit System Fare Schedule by setting the fare on the shuttle bus to the Independence Day celebration as a free .will donation. WHEREAS, the City of Yakima is providing:shuttle ;bus services to the Independence Day celebration for the citizens and visitors of Yakima through its Transit Division; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to have the City and its citizens and visitors continue to have shuttle bus services available; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to encourage usage of transit service to the event by setting the fare at a free will donation, now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The Transit Division is authorized and directed to provide transit service to the Independence Day celebration on July 4th, 1998, by allowing passengers to ride for the fare of a free will donation. ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA on this 19 th day of May, 1998, ATTEST: /±/ CPYL CITY CLERK John Puccinelli, MAYOR BUSINESS OF THE CITY COUNCIL YAKIMA, WASHINGTON AGENDA STATEMENT Item No. /14 For Meeting of 5/19/98 ITEM TITLE: Resolution establishing that the fare for shuttle bus service to the 1998 4th of July celebration be by voluntary contribution SUBMITTED BY: Chris Waarvick, Acting Director of Public Works CONTACT PERSON/TELEPHONE: Bill Schultz, Transit Manager/575-6005 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: At the March 28, 1998, meeting of the Council Transit Committee, the issue of whether or not to charge a fare for the shuttle bus services for the annual 4th of July celebration at the County Fair Grounds was again placed on the table for consideration. Since the beginning of these Independence Day activities, shuttle bus services have been provided free to the public. Beginning in 1996, a free will donation was requested. It was proposed and approved to recommend to the City Council that the policy of providing the public the opportunity to make a voluntary donation be continued in 1998. The attached resolution was prepared for that purpose.
