A RESOLUTION:
RESOLUTION NO. R-98- 59
modifying the Transit System Fare Schedule by
providing a fare free promotional period during
observance of "Try Transit Week".
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima is currently providing public
transportation services to the citizens and visitors of Yakima through its
Transit Division, and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to have the City and its citizens
and visitors participate in the nation-wide observance of "Try Transit
Week," and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to encourage increased usage of
transit service through a free service promotion, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
YAKIMA:
The Transit Division is authorized and directed to celebrate the
observance of "Try Transit Week" and to promote transit service . through a
free fare period of not .more than six (6) consecutive service days
commencing on Monday, May 11, 1998.

ITEM TITLE: Resolution establishing free transit service during the 1998 "Try
Transit Week" promotion, May 11 through 15, 1998.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION: Annually Yakima Transit observes the national public
transportation promotion called "Try Transit Week." This year, in a desire to try
something a little different and to attempt to build ridership, we would like to
provide free service to encourage people to give transit a try. It is also intended
to help employers encourage their employees to try transit at no cost to
themselves. The attached resolution was prepared for that purpose. The
promotional plans for Try Transit Week were discussed at the March 24 Transit
Committee meeting.
