RESOLUTION NO R-96-139
A RESOLUTION revising the Transit System fare structure to allow client's of the City's
Dial -A -Ride program to ride the fixed route transit service free of charge.
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima Transit Division currently provides public
transportation services to Yakima's citizens and visitors, and
WHEREAS, for pre -qualified Dial -a -Ride clients, free service on the conventional fixed
route transit buses would encorage those persons to utilize the bus service when it is
possible and they desire to do so, and
WHEREAS, utilization of the bus service by Dial -a -Ride clients when it is possible and
they desire to do so could reduce the overall costs of operating the Transit system and
would be in the best intyerests of the City, now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Dial -A -Ride clents shall henceforth be allowed to utilize the regular fixed route bus
service at no charge.

ITEM TITLE: Resolutions modifying the Transit fare structure to include
a Day Pass and allowing participants of the Dial -A -Ride
program to utilize fixed route bus service fare free.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The Council previously approved the concept of
allowing Dial -A -Ride clients, who are able, to ride the bus system free as an
incentive to reduce their dependence on Dial -A -Ride.
We have also added the provision of a Day Pass for passenger convenience.
For the purchase price, which is recommended to be set at the cost of three
one-way trips ($1.50), a customer can ride the bus all day on the day for
which the pass was purchased. The attached resolutions accomplishes the
modifications.
