RESOLUTION NO. R-96- 81
A RESOLUTION declaring two used police cars to be surplus and authorizing their
sale to the City of Tieton Police Department.
WHEREAS, the City owns two used 1993 Chevrolet Caprice police cars,
equipment numbers 1208 and 1211, license numbers 12338D and 12347D, for which
the City has no immediate or foreseeable use and which is surplus to the needs of the
City; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tieton Police Department has offered fifteen hundred
dollars ($1,500 00) each for said police cars which is a reasonable price for said
vehicles, and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it would be in the best interest of the City
to sell these police cars forthwith rather than sell it at the public auction of City
surplus equipment at a later date, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
The City Council hereby declares the aforementioned 1993 Chevrolet Caprice
police cars, equipment number 1208 and 1211, license numbers 12338D and 12347D
respectively, to be surplus to the needs of the City of Yakima and the City Manager is
hereby authorized and directed to sell said police cars to the City of Tieton Police
Department for fifteen hundred dollars ($1,500 00) each plus sales tax.

This letter is a follow up to our conversation of March 1,
1996 in reference to the Town of Tieton purchasing a surplus
vehicle from you. We would like to be notified when your surplus
vehicles will be available. We are interested in 1 possible 2
squad cars.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The Equipment Rental and Replacement Division currently has two used police cars
which are in excess of the City's needs. These cars are to be sold at auction next fall.
The City of Tieton Police Department is requesting to purchase these units for the price of
$1,500 each. The units they desire are 1993 Chevrolet Caprices, Equipment #'s 1208
and 1211, License #'s 12338D and 12347D, respectively. The price of $1,500 each is a
reasonable price for surplus police vehicles with high mileage.
Staff recommends that the City Council declare these two units as surplus to our needs
and authorize the sale of the vehicles to the City of Tieton Police Department for the price
of $1,500 per vehicle, plus sales tax of $118.50 totaling $1,618.50 for each car.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended the Council adopt the attached
Resolution declaring Vehicles #'s 1208 and 1209 surplus and authorize sale of same to
