Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Partnership, proposed service agreement to be
presented at the April 7th council meeting
O'Rourke updated the Committee on a proposed service agreement with Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce outlining three courses of action
1. Market outreach to Hispanic Businesses through community channels,
websites, social media, newsletters, public forums and luncheons
2. Friends of flight partnership
3. Cinco de Mayo; building on existing event by providing increased marketing
support
Both council members supported the proposed service agreement with Hispanic Chamber
of Commerce and will bring to the full council at the April 7th meeting.
Cruise the Avenue Events
Hawkins proposed that the council allow cruising on the avenue on set dates throughout
the summer as part of an event put on by the Downtown Association of Yakima. The
group would be responsible for taking care of the permitting and provide the requisite
50% of funding to cover costs associated with extra motorcycle patrol.
Both council members supported the proposed "Cruise the Avenue" event(s) and will
present to the full council.
Fly YKM Marketing Firm RFQ
Hawkins reported that the RFQ is scheduled to go out March 27th, 2015, local marketing
firms will be notified, and an advertisement will be posted in the Yakima Herald. The
RFQ is open to any marketing firm and the results of the request will be presented to
the council in May.
Briefing Items
• Introduction of new Economic Development Assistant, Colleda Monick
Council Member Coffey requested an action plan detailing the tasks and priorities of
the Economic Development Department and recommended a coordinating branding image
for organizations that are supporting Economic Development in Yakima; Yakima County
Development Association, Downtown Association of Yakima, Chamber of Commerce, etc.
Craft Beverage Yakima
Hawkins reported that the group has developed a strategic plan and is currently in
the process of developing a logo and marketing strategy.
Update on City Events
Hawkins reported to the group that the first annual Roots & Vines Festival went out
in a press release today, Downtown Summer Nights will run 10 weeks starting June 10tH
Viva la Musica will run 10 weeks as well starting on July 12th and running on Sundays at
Miller Park until September 13th, Blues & Brews is scheduled for June 16th and Hawkins
anticipates 2,500 attendees for this event.
