For Meeting of: October 18, 2016
ITEM TITLE: Set date of November 15, 2016 for a public hearing on:
A. Proposed 2017 Revenue and Expenditure Budget for the City of
Yakima with a second public hearing on December 6, 2016; and B.
Proposed 2017 Revenue Sources and Consideration of Legislation
pertaining to Ad Valorem (Property) Taxes to be levied for
collection in 2017

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The 2017 Preliminary Budget has been developed, and will be presented for Council
consideration at the following public meetings:
• The Preliminary Budget will be summarized and presented in a Power Point presentation to
Council at a study session on Monday, October 24, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This
session will also include additional information requested by Council on potential revenues.
• A more complete Preliminary Budget document is targeted to be distributed on Friday,
October 28.
• In -depth reviews of the Preliminary Budget will be conducted by Council from 9:00 a.m. to
Noon on November 1, 3, 8, and 10, with November 29 set aside as overflow if needed.
Council will make preliminary decisions on Strategic Initiatives as they move through this
review. The detailed schedule by division is attached.
• Budget Wrap -up (i.e. Council final decisions on Strategic Initiatives) is scheduled for the
regular Council meeting on Tuesday, December 6, 2016.
• Budget Adoption is scheduled for the regular Council meeting on Tuesday, December 13,
2016.
It is necessary to schedule two public hearings regarding the 2017 Budget, and one public
hearing regarding the 2017 Ad Valorem (Property) Tax Levy, as follows:
A. Set date for a public hearing on the proposed 2017 Revenue and Expenditure Budget
for the City of Yakima on November 15, 2016, with a second public hearing on December 6,
2016; and
B. Set date for a public hearing on November 15, 2016 on Revenue Sources and
Consideration of Legislation pertaining to Ad Valorem (Property) Taxes to be levied for
collection in 2017.
