January 7, 2025
Background
• Yakima's passenger and air cargo terminal was built in 1950
• The last remodel was 25 years ago
• Many of the building systems are original, old, and antiquated
The airport completed an Airport Master Plan in 2020 that identified the need for a modern
terminal building
• The airport received $5M Congressionally Directed Spending in 2022 and 2023 to fund
modernizing the terminal building
• The airport began design of phase 1A (terminal roof and HVAC) in 2024 and opened
construction bids on September 19 2024
The airport sought and received a county SIED grant of $75oK to match federal funds for
\\\\ design, and hired MWA architects to complete the terminal design
The airport received a siM grant from FAA for a new baggage carousel and baggage area
improvements in October 2024

Application
• Design and construction must follow FAA guidelines and procedures
• Not all elements of the terminal project are eligible for FAA funding
• Typical match for FAA projects is io% local funds
FAA ineligible and match funds are substantial and surpass the resources of
the city and airport
\\\\ The airport would like to apply for a $2M SIED grant application to match
federal funds for the first phase of the Terminal Modernization Project. This
will likely be the first of a few applications.
