For Meeting of: January 14, 2025 ITEM TITLE: National Mentoring Month Proclamation SUBMITTED BY: Vicki Baker, City Manager SUMMARY EXPLANATION: At the January 7th City Council meeting, the Council reviewed and approved a National Mentoring Month proclamation. Attached is the final proclamation. Alicia Stromme Tobin, Executive Director of Safe Yakima Valley, will be in attendance to accept the proclamation. ITEM BUDGETED: N/A STRATEGIC PRIORITY 24-25: An Engaged Yakima RECOMMENDATION: ATTACHMENTS: National Mentoring Month.docx 5 CITY OE TAKIIIA P RO C L A *A T I 0 .9‘r ZEWIS, Janualy 2025 marks the annual observance of rational Mentoring Month, a nationwide campaign to celebrate and promote the power of mentoring relationships; and WRIEWS, mentoring provides meaningful connections that positively impact the lives of both mentors and mentees,fostering personal growth, educational success, and social-emotional development; and z'LE A.5, mentors serve as role models, guiding young people through challenges and encouraging them to reach their furl potential helping to build a brighter future for our communities; and WIPETZTAS, organizations like MEA OR,Washington and other local mentoring programs such as (Yakima Music enAccion(LAMA)and SATE (Yakima valley play a vital role in training mentors, supporting mentees, and strengthening communities 6y fostering these invaluable relationships; and WHETZTAS, rational Mentoring Month calls upon individuals, businesses, schools,faith communities, and civic organizations to become engaged in mentoring, ensuring every young person has access to caring and supportive guidance; and ZE2AS, the City of(Yakima recognizes the importance of mentoring as a proven strategy to increase school engagement, reduce risky behaviors, improve mental health outcomes and inspire young people to achieve success, NOW VIERS FORE, I, Patricia Byers, Mayor of the City of(Yakima and on behalf of the (Yakima City Council do hereby proclaim Janualy 2025 as Wationa1 Mentoring Month in the City of(Yakima and encourage all residents to celebrate the dedicated mentors who make a difference in the lives of others, to consider becoming a mentor, and to support local mentoring programs that strengthen our community andfuture.
