ITEM TITLE: Small Business Saturday proclamation

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
At the November 4 City Council meeting, Council approved the draft Small Business Saturday
proclamation request. Kristi Foster (Yakima Chamber of Commerce) and Curt Wilson (Downtown
Association of Yakima) will be accepting the proclamation.

TFEc., the City of Yakima celebrates our local small.businesses and the
contributions they make to our local economy and community; and
W[EWS, according to the Vnited States Small.cBusinessAdministration, there are
34.7 million small.businesses in the Vnited States and they represent 99.7% of firms with paid
employees; and
[E S, small.businesses are responsible for 61.1% of net new jobs created since
1995, and small.businesses employ 45.9% of the employees in the private sector in the Vnited
States; and
[ES, 68 cents of every dollar spent at a small.business in the Vnited States
stays in the local community and every dollar spent at small.businesses creates an additional48
cents in local business activity as a result of employees and local6usinesses purchasing local
goods and services; and
[ES, 59% of V.S. consumers aware of Small.cBusiness Saturday shopped or ate
at a small; independently owned retailer or restaurant on Small(usiness Saturday 2023; and
WlitEcS, the City of Yakima supports our focal businesses that create jobs, boost
our local economy and preserve our communities;WittEKTAS, advocacy groups, as well as public and private organizations, across the
country have endorsed the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small(usiness Saturday.

of the Yakima City Council; do hereby proclaim Saturday, .ovem6er30, 2024 as

and urge the residents of our community, and communities across the country, to support small
businesses and merchants on Small(Business Saturday and throughout the year.
