ITEM TITLE: Constitution Week proclamation

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
At the August 20 City Council meeting, the City Council approved the Constitution Week proclamation
request. Jill Scott, Pam Egan, Barb Schultz and Mark Schultz will be accepting the proclamation.

`' . 1!E S, September 17, 2024, marks the two hundred thirty-seventh anniversary of
the drafting of the Constitution of the Vnited States of America by the Constitutional
Convention; and
WHEREAS,EAS, it is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this magnificent
document and its memorable anniversary, and to the patriotic celebrations which will-
commemorate the occasion; and
WHEREAS, Public Law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year 6y the
President of the VnitedStates ofAmerica designating September 17 through 23 as
Constitution Week and
WHEREAS, the (Yakima City Council encourages the residents of the City of(Yakima
to study the Constitution and reflect on the privilege of being an American with all the rights
and responsibilities which that privilege involves.
NOW MERE FORE, I, Patricia Byers, Mayor of the City of(Yakima and on behalf of
the City Council, do hereby proclaim the weekof September 17 through 23, 2024 as
"Narcissa Wfiitman Cfiapter, I SCDAR
Constitution Week"
in the City of(Yakima and askour residents to reaffirm the ideals the Framers of the
Constitution had in 1787 6y vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this
guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost right may never 6e regained.
