ITEM TITLE: Recognition of Fruit Row National Historic District and Yakima
Harvest Month Proclamation

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The City of Yakima recently has a portion of the downtown listed on the National Register of Historic
Places, the Planning Division wants to publicly acknowledge this momentous achievement, and have a
proclamation read recognizing the people and business that keep Ag business within the City going. At
the August 27th Council meeting, the City Council reviewed a draft copy of the proclamation and
unanimously approved the issuance of the proclamation.
The Hollingbery family will be accepting the proclamation.

Proclamation
Whereas, the City of(Yakima has Cong been a cornerstone of agriculturaCexceCCence,
contributing sign cantCy to the focal-and national-economy through its diverse and abundant
agricultural-production; and
Whereas, the agriculturaCindustry has not only provided economic stability but has also
shaped the culturaCand social-fabric of(Yakima,fostering a community that values hard work
innovation, and a deep connection to the (and; and
(Whereas, the history of(Yakima is deeply intertwined with its agricultural-roots,from
the establishment of wine grape vineyards and hops acreage, to the development of modern
irrigation systems that have transformed the (Yakima valley into one of the most productive
agricultural-regions in the VnitedStates; and
Whereas, the City of(Yakima recognizes the ongoing challenges faced 6y the agricultural-
sector, and will-continue to support the Cong-term viability of this vital-industry; and
Whereas, the 'Fruit Row NationaC.Jfistoric District is the oldest functioning
agricultural-warehouse district in (Yakima County; and
Whereas, the City of(Yakima recognizes the importance of the agriculture industry and
the role the industry has had on the fabric of the City.
NOW, TIfEREcFORE, I, Patricia Byers Mayor of the City of(Yakima and on behalf of
the City Council, do hereby proclaim the month of September as
"Harvest f ylontfi"
throughout the City of(Yakima and encourage all-residents to reflect and observe this vital-part
of our heritage and thinka6out the future of(Yakima as the agriculture industry continues to
change and grow.
