YAKIMA CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
June 17, 2024

12:00 PM City Council Special Meeting —conducted in person
1. Roll Call
Present: Mayor Patricia Byers, presiding; Assistant Mayor Matt Brown; and Councilmembers
Reedy Berg (attending Executive Session via Zoom and in-person, not present for roll call),
Janice Deccio, Rick Glenn, Danny Herrera and Leo Roy
Staff: Interim City Manager Dave Zabell, Senior Assistant City Attorney Bronson Faul and
Acting City Clerk Brandy Bradford
2. Public Comment(allow 15 minutes)
None.
3. Executive Session
A. Executive session to evaluate the qualifications of applicants for public employment
pursuant to RCW 42.30.110(1)(g)
MOTION: Brown moved and Deccio seconded to adjourn to Executive Session until 5:15
p.m. to discuss and evaluate the qualifications of applicants for public employment. The
motion carried by unanimous vote; Berg absent.
Executive Session was held at 12:12 p.m. and adjourned at 5:10 p.m. The meeting was called
back to order at 5:15 p.m.
4. Special Meeting Items
A. Selection of Finalists for City Manager
MOTION: Brown moved and Glenn seconded that the following applicant, applicant
number 9, be moved as a finalist for the job of City Manager and be invited to Yakima for
final interviews. The motion passed by a 5-2 roll call vote, Deccio and Herrera
voting no.
MOTION: Brown moved and Berg seconded that the following applicant, candidate 1, be
moved forward as a finalist for the job of City Manager and be invited to Yakima for final
interviews. The motion failed by a 4-3 roll call vote, Byers, Glenn, Roy and Berg voting no.
MOTION: Brown moved and Berg seconded that the following applicant, candidate 10, be
moved forward as a finalist for the job of City Manager and be invited to Yakima for final
interviews. The motion failed by a 6-1 roll call vote; Glenn, Roy, Berg, Brown, Deccio and
Herrera voting no.

MOTION: Brown moved and Berg seconded that the following applicant, candidate 6, be
moved forward as a finalist for the job of City Manager and be invited to Yakima for final
interviews. The motion failed by a 4-3 roll call vote; Glenn, Roy, Berg and Brown voting no.
MOTION: Brown moved and Berg seconded that the following applicant, candidate 5, be
moved forward as a finalist for the job of City Manager and be invited to Yakima for final
interviews. The motion passed by a 4-3 roll call vote; Herrera, Byers and Glenn voting no.
MOTION: Brown moved and Berg seconded that the following applicant, candidate 3, be
moved forward as a finalist for the job of City Manager and be invited to Yakima for final
interviews. The motion passed by a 5-2 roll call vote; Deccio and Herrera voting no.
MOTION: Brown moved and Berg seconded that the following applicant, candidate 27, be
moved forward as a finalist for the job of City Manager and be invited to Yakima for final
interviews. The motion failed by a 7-0 roll call vote.
5. Adjournment
MOTION: Brown moved and Berg seconded to adjourn to the next regular City Council
Meeting on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The
motion carried by unanimous vote. The meeting adjourned at 5:23 p.m.
