A RESOLUTION authorizing acceptance of a state grant from the Washington State
Department of Transportation for Wide Hollow Creek Pedestrian Bridge
Improvement Project.
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima (City) is improving the functionality and safety of the Wide
Hollow Creek Improvement Pedestrian Bridge Improvement Project (Project); and
WHEREAS, improvements consist of replacing the current Pedestrian Bridge near
the Wide Hollow Creek in the West Valley Community Park, and
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima was selected to receive $900,000, in state funding
through the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) 2024 Supplemental
Transportation Budget for the Project, which requires no local match; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that it is in the best interests of the City of Yakima and
its residents to accept the grant from WSDOT for the Project, and authorize the City Manager to
take all necessary steps to execute the grant agreement, necessary contracts, and administer
the funds received from WSDOT; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept the Washington State Department of
Transportation (WSDOT) grant attached hereto and incorporated herein by this reference, not to
exceed Nine Hundred Thousand Dollars ($900,000) and directed to take all necessary steps to
secure the funding for the Project.
ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 2nd day of July, 2024.

ITEM TITLE: Resolution authorizing acceptance of a Department of Transportation
State Funding grant award for Wide Hollow Creek Pedestrian Bridge
Improvement Project

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
The City of Yakima received the Washington State Department of Transportation Wide Hollow Creek
Active Transportation Improvement grant for the Wide Hollow Creek Pedestrian Bridge Improvement
Project.
The project consists of installing a new pedestrian bridge and constructing a pathway to connect on
either side of the bridge at the Wide Hollow Creek located in the West Valley Community Park.
The state grant award is in the amount of$900,000 and requires no match. The attached Resolution
authorizes the City Manager to accept the subject grant. Staff recommends approval.
