Budget Advisory Committee Proposal
Tasks and Purpose:
1. Review and Analyze City Budget: Examine the city's proposed budget in detail, assessing
revenues, expenditures, and financial forecasts to ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment
with community priorities.
2. Public Engagement and Feedback: Organize public hearings and forums to gather input from
residents and stakeholders on budget priorities, concerns, and suggestions, ensuring
transparency and community involvement in the budgeting process.
3. Identify Cost-Saving Measures: Evaluate current spending practices and identify
opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements without compromising the
quality of public services.
4. Monitor Financial Performance: Track the implementation of the budget throughout the
fiscal year, monitoring financial performance, and making recommendations for
adjustments or corrective actions as needed to maintain financial stability and
accountability.
Recommended Requirements to be on the Budget Advisory Committee
1. Professional Experience in Budgeting: Direct experience in budgeting within government,
non-profits, or large organizations, including preparing, managing, or auditing budgets.
2. Data Interpretation and Reporting: Ability to interpret complex financial reports, perform
quantitative analysis, and present findings in a clear and concise manner to various
stakeholders, including city officials and the public.
3. Stakeholder Engagement Experience: Proven ability to engage with a diverse range of
stakeholders, including residents, business leaders, and community organizations, to gather
input and build consensus around budgetary decisions.
4. Previous Committee or Board Experience: Experience serving on advisory boards or
committees, particularly those related to finance, public policy, or community planning,
demonstrating an ability to contribute effectively in a collaborative setting.
