For Meeting of: May 7, 2024 ITEM TITLE: 2024 Clean City 1st Quarter Report SUBMITTED BY: Scott Schafer, Public Works Director SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The Clean City program was established as a quick response unit to issues that could cause blight within the City. Under the direction of Public Works, Clean City is a coordinated inter- departmental effort primarily involving, Public Works, Codes, Legal, and Police. The primary objectives of the Clean City program are to: • Address visual blight (trash, graffiti, dangerous buildings, abandoned vehicles, etc.) • Perform necessary and unscheduled collection of waste and litter from the City's public rights-of-way • Expedite the clean-up of such illegal dumps • Clean up unpermitted homeless encampments • Support Yakima Police Department officers in unlawful camping enforcement • Provide coordination with neighborhoods for annual clean-up events • Create educational materials • Engage with community partners and volunteers Below is a summary of accomplishments for Q1 of 2024: Jan - Mar Graffiti Incidents Abated 475 Shopping Carts Removed 221 Homeless Individuals Contacted 1,600 Homeless Encampments Addressed 35 Illegal Dump Sites Cleaned 540 Garbage Removed (Tons) 29.2 Tires Removed 107 Pressure-Washed Areas 5 2 Inoperable Vehicles 0 Dangerous Buildings 0 Attached in greater detail for City Council review is the 2024 Clean City 1st Quarter Report.
