ITEM TITLE: Draft Yakima-Morelia Sister City proclamation

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
On February 22, 2024, Sister City representative Margaret Luera requested a proclamation for
the 25th anniversary of the Yakima-Morelia Sister City relationship.
Attached for Council's consideration is a draft proclamation. If approved, the proclamation will be
read and presented at the April 2 regular business meeting.

wiE AS, `Yakima, Washington, V.S.A. and Morelia, Michoacan, Me4co have
built strong ties between their communities thanks to a shared commitment to develop
a positive and productive Sister City relationship; and
WI-PEWS, the Sister Cities program fosters mutual respect, understanding, and
cooperation through its active global citizen diplomacy network; and
WJIEWAS, numerous visits 6y delegations from each Sister City to the other have
proven tremendously worthwhile 6y creating countless opportunities for cultural,
educational; and economic e.cchanges between (Yakima and Morelia; and
LEERS, the (Yakima-Morelia Sister City relationship has significantly enriched
both communities since it began; and
LE EAS, the dedicated members of the (Yakima-Morelia Sister City Association
continue to enthusiastically promote friendship and collaboration between our two
communities and our two countries; and
4LEcR EAS, (Yakima is proud to host a distinguished delegation from Morelia and
e.vends warm wishes fora valuable and beneficial visit; and
WJPEKAAS, the (Yakima-Morelia Sister City Association is celebrating their 25th
year of citizen to citizen diplomacy with their Sister City Morelia.
NOW, Z`HEKTTOga, I, Patricia Byers, Mayor of the City of(Yakima, and on
behalf of the (Yakima City Council do hereby proclaim the weekofApril1, 2024 as

in the City of (Yakima and encourage everyone in our community to welcome
our honored guests from Morelia, the great capitol city of Michoacan, Me4co.
