For Meeting of: September 19, 2023 ITEM TITLE: Draft Harvest Marching Band Festival Proclamation SUBMITTED BY: Bob Harrison, City Manager SUMMARY EXPLANATION: Attached is a draft Harvest Marching Band Festival proclamation for Council review. If approved, the proclamation will be read and presented at the October 17th Council business meeting. ITEM BUDGETED: STRATEGIC PRIORITY: APPROVED FOR SUBMITTAL BY THE CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDATION: ATTACHMENTS: Description Upload Date Type D Draft Harvest Marching Band Festival proclamation 2 ancoT TAlIJKA T OCLAwA 'I'ION WJPEcf S,for 22 years a group of volunteers has formed a committee to host a performance festivalfor high school marching bands across Washington State; and WJPE 4S, the festival named.Ifarvest Marching Band Eestival,featuring marching band field shows at ZaepfelStadium on campus at Eisenhower.Ifigh School, is hosted for one day annually on a Saturday in October, and WRIERAS, the festival is comprised of volunteers across the City of Yakima, parents of Eisenhower.d-figh School Marching Band students, parents of AC Davis.ICigh School Marching Band students, and other many community volunteers; and WWERAS, through coordinated efforts of the committee, the festival provides a safe environment for this year's 20 high school marching bands to perform, compete against one another in separate divisions including Class,AA Class,AAA Class, and Open Class; and WWEAS, certified judges will.be in attendance to provide scoring on each band's performances in areas including musical aptitude, coordination, performance, and high performing bands will move on to finals to repeat performances a second time on the same day; and WWE ./AS, all proceeds will go to funding the Eisenhower.J-figh School Marching Band, AC Davis.Ifigh School Marching Band and the II-arrest Marching Band Eestival to fund the festival in future years, NOW, 71-PETaTOga, I, Janice Deccio, Mayor of the City of Yakima and on behalf of the Yakima City Council, do hereby proclaim October 21, 2023 as «M. 1' .VESJKAn riNg BAND E,S L DA V in the City of(Yakima and encourage any and all individuals with an interest in marching band and field shows to purchase tickets and attend the peformances which run from 8:30 a.m. until.8:00 p.m. Dated this 17th day of October, 2023 Janice Deccio, Mayor
