Attached is a draft Pride Month proclamation. If approved, the proclamation will be read and
presented at the June 6 Council business meeting.

TWI E1 AS, June is recognized as Lesbian, Cray, (asexual 7ransgender,Asexual
Jlromantic, Queer, Two Spirit, ,NonBinary, and Interse +Pride Month, and the plus reflects
the countless affirmative ways in which people choose to self-identj; and
TWIEREAS, the historic Stonewall uprising of 1969 is generally recognized as the
catalyst of the LCJ(B7Q+Rights Movement, and serves as a reminder that progress and
equality can only he achieved through determination, resilience, and collective action;
"WJ(E1 AS, the City of(Yakima values the diversity and contributions of all its
residents, including those who ident61 as LCJB'Q+, and recognizes the ongoing struggles and
challenges faced 6y the LG(B7Q+community; and
'WHEREAS, the City of Yakima and its officials acknowledge and promote a more
respectful supportive, and inclusive society where LCJB'Q+individuals can live freely,feel
safe, and be free from discrimination based on their se..ualorientation or gender identity;and
WHEREAS, the City of Yakima celebrates the contributions and achievements of the
LCgcB7Q+community, including those of its own residents, and recognizes the important role
that L CgcTQ+individuals have played and continue to play in shaping the history and culture
of our city; .
Now, E1 rF0RE, I,Janice Deccio, 9Vlayorof the City of Yakima, on behalf of
the City Council do fiere6y proclaim the month of June 2023 as
'Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual; Transgender, J1sexuaC J4romantic,
Queer, Two Spirit, Non-( inary, and Interse. amide .Month'
in the City of Yakima and encourage all people in our city to join in celebrating diversity and
promoting inclusion and equal-protection under the law. I further encourage everyone to
eliminate prejudice and discriminatory policies and practices toward any culture, race, or
group.
