ITEM BUDGETED: STRATEGIC PRIORITY: APPROVED FOR SUBMITTAL BY THE CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDATION: ATTACHMENTS: Description Upload Date Type Earth Day proclamation 3/23/2023 Corer Memo 2 ant OW 'YAICI A ntOCLA TION WilEREAS, tfie first Earth cDay was enacted in 1970 and engaged over 20 million Americans to advocate for a cleaner environment, ultimately growing to be a world-wide event, highlighting some of the most criticalenvironmentalissues on tfie world stage: and WHlEcAS, tfie City of Yakima applauds tfie many groups wfio seek, to protect our environment and encourages all citizens, businesses, and institutions to promote Earth cDay, not only as an annual event to celebrate tfie Earth and to encourage environmental and climate literacy, but also to act as a springboard to learn more and to do more to protect tfie environment; and WXME AS, we urge all residents to be mindful in tfie protection against tfie many threats posed to our environment while supporting tfie sustainability of planet, Earth. We support tfie creativity, innovation, and education to solve these problems, witfi local communities leading tfie way by encouraging sustainable energy and water use, waste reduction, reuse, and recycling practices; and WHtEXEAS, we encourage all citizens to become engaged in efforts to help maintain and improve Yakima's environments; and W ER1EAS, tfie Earth cDay Planning Committee of Yakima, a volunteer group of committed citizens, has partnered witfi tfie Yakima Parks and Recreation Department to plan tfie Earth cDay `Fair-2023 to be held at EEmil2Kissel Parkon April22, 2023 from 10 am to 2 pm. NO`W TJftEcFO1 , in special recognition of tfie efforts of tfie Earth Day Planning Committee, Yakima Parks and Recreation, and community sponsors, donors, and volunteers wfio are supporting this event, we tfie City Council of Yakima do hereby proclaim Saturday,April22, 2023 as atavz EA(wien to offer an opportunity to make, renew, and celebrate commitments that will protect quality of lift and the planet Earth,for generations to come.
