TO EREAS, during American Wccf Cross gfome Tire Safety week(April15-22)in the
City of(Yakima, `Washington, the American ciiedCross willmobilize volunteers and local
partners to make the community saferfrom the threat of home fires; and
WHEREAS, home fires claim about seven lives every day in the VS. — but having
working smoke alarms can cut the riskof death by half; and
WHEREAS, data collectedfrom the VS. Census, the American Red and the
National-Tire Incident Reporting System show (Yakima having the highest risk from home
fires of any county in `Washington State; and
WHEREAS, it takes all of us to make our City safer and we thank and recognize the
1kedCross volunteers and partners whose simple acts of kindness will-provide help and hope in
people's most difficult hours. Their support, volunteerism andgenerous donations are critical
to our community's resilience.
