Honorable Mayor&City Council,
The Yakima Regional Public Facility District had their quarterly meeting on January 26th, 2023. At this
meeting, many memories were shared of Kathy Coffey and the impact she had on the Yakima Convention
& Event Center and Yakima throughout her many years of service. I personally had the honor of working
with her for 13 years. During that time, she was a mentor to many, dedicated to the success of the
Convention Center, and a constant cheerleader for Yakima. After a lot of discussion, staff suggested that
the South Ballroom be renamed to the Kathy Coffey Ballroom.A vote was then taken to bring this request
to the Yakima City Council for approval, a unanimous vote ensued.
With your approval I will see to the necessary tasks involved in making this happen and a dedication will
be scheduled. I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing back.
Sincerely,
Connie Upton, General Manager
Yakima Convention & Event Center
