Cook, Community and Economic Development Department Director CONTACT PERSON /TELEPHONE: Michael Morales, Community and Economic Development Deputy Director (575 -3533) SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The City of Yakima receives federal funds to be used toward providing affordable housing to qualified low to moderate income, first time homebuyers within the City of Yakima. • The property located at 109 N. 6 Street is being offered for sale by the property owner to the City of Yakima for the appraised value of $27,500. This property suffered a fire and has been vacant for over a year and was recently boarded up in concern for public safety. Neighborhood Development Services proposes purchase of the property from the property owner for the appraised value of the lot, and would then clear the fire damaged structure and remove all debris. This lot would be used for future new construction of a home using federal funding administered by the City of Yakima's Office of Neighborhood Development Services. This proposal was discussed at the meeting of the City Council's Neighborhood Development Committee on April 8, 2009; the committee recommended that this proposal be forwarded to the full Council for approval. WHEREAS, the City of Yakima receives federal funds to be used toward providing affordable housing to qualified low to moderate income, first time homebuyers within the City of Yakima; and WHEREAS, the property located at 109 N. 6 Street is being offered for sale by the property owner, to the City of Yakima for the appraised value of $27,500; and WHEREAS, this property suffered a fire and has been vacant for over a year and was recently boarded up in concern for public safety; and S WHEREAS, Neighborhood Development Services proposes purchase of the property from the property owner for the appraised value of the lot, and would then clear the fire damaged structure and remove all debris; and WHEREAS, this lot would be used for future new construction of a single family home using federal funding administered by the City of Yakima's Office of Neighborhood Development Services now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The City Council authorizes the purchase of 901 N. 6 Street by the Office of Neighborhood Development Services for the appraised amount of $27,500 for abatement of the existing fire damaged structure and eventual construction of a new single family dwelling to be sold to a qualified first time homebuyer.
