SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
July 28, 2022 at approximately 1:15 p.m. after completing his assigned task, Joey saw a large fire
at the base of the old Baptist church at 515 E. Yakima Ave. Using his training as a 20-year retired
firefighter, he proceeded to put out the fire, preventing further building damage. Using his
vehicle's emergency overhead lights, Joey grabbed the fire extinguisher from the back of his
truck and knocked the fire down. Meanwhile a Premix cement truck had pulled over and had
some water on board. He used some water to help extinguish the fire more thoroughly. Police
Chief Murray was near the site and called the fire department. As the fire was knocked down and
the fire department was on the way, the cement truck left. Once the fire department showed up
Joey set up traffic cones to block the lanes for their safety. The fire department finished
extinguishing the fire. Joey picked up his traffic cones and left the site.
