WHEREAS, the members of the (Yakima Police Department's correctional-staff
is committed to maintain custody, security, and control in a safe and efficient manner;
and
WHEREAS, Correctional Officers are dedicated professionals who manage a
diverse group of individuals and are often faced with challenges; and
WHEREAS, Correctional Officers are integral to ensuring the community
members of the City of(Yakima are protectedfrom people who the criminaljustice system
has determined are not safe to be at large; and
WHEREAS in 1984, President Ronald 1!eagan designated the first wee kof SYLay
as National Correctional-Officers `Week
WOW, TWERETOICE, I, Janice Deccio, SYLayor of the City of(Yakima and on
behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim the first weekof SYLay as
"Wationa(CorrectionalOfficers Week"
in honor of those correctional officers who tenaciously serve their community or have
become disabledin the performance of duty. cFurther, I call-upon all community members
to observe the weekof SYLay 1-7, 2022 as correctional officers Weekin which all of our
people may join in commemorating correctional officers, past and present, who by their
faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities have rendered service to their
communities and, in so doing, have establishedfor themselves an enviable and enduring
reputation for preserving the rights and security of the community.
