B - 1899 AN ORDINANCE amending Sections 1 and 2 of Ordinance No. B-224, entitled: "AN ORDINANCE creating a Planning Commission for the City of Yakima, providing'for the powers and duties of such Commission, repealing Ordinance No. A -893, and declaring an emergency ", and repealing Ordinance B -1150, and declaring an emergency. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA: Section 1. That Section 1 of Ordinance No. B- 224, passed and approved by the City Commission on the 16th day of August, 1937, and entitled as set forth in the caption hereof, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 1. There is hereby created for the City of Yakima a City Planning Commission, to consist of ten (10) members, one of which shall be the City Engineer who shall serve as a non - voting ex officio member. The other nine (9) members of said Commission shall be appointed by the Commissioner of Public Works, subject to the approval of a majority of the City Commission." Section 2. That Section 2 of Ordinance No. B -224, passed and approved by the City Commission on.the 16th day of August, 1937, and entitled as set forth in the caption hereof, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 2. The members of said Planning Commission, other than said City Engineer, shall be appointed for an initial term of office respectively of three (3), four (4), five (5) and six (6) years. Upon the expiration of their terms of office their successors shall be appointed or reappointed for the term of six (6) years. In the event of an increase in the number of members constituting the Planning Commission, any additional members shall be appointed by the Commissioner of Public Works, subject to the approval of a majority of the City Commission. The term of office for each additional member so appointed shall be for six (6) years. Upon the resignation or removal of any such Commissioner, his successor shall be appointed for the balance of his unexpired term.." Section 3. This ordinance is one to provide for the immediate preservation of public peace, property, health and safety of the people of the City of Yakima; and an emergency is hereby declared to exist; and said ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage, approval and publication as provided for in the city charter.
