AN ORDINANCE amending Section ]!3'' of Article 36 of Ordinance B -131, entitled 1° 'AN
ORDINANCE relating to and regulating traffic, travel and transportation
and their incidents upon the streets and other ways open to the public;
prescribing the powers; and duties of officers and others in relation
thereto; defining offenses;: providing penalties and repealing certain
ordinances: concerned with or relating to the subject matter of this
ordinance, and declaring an emergency." And declaring an emergency.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. That Section 13, Article 3:: of Ordinance No. B -131, passed
and approved by the City. Commission on February 26, 1936, and entitled as set forth
in the caption hereof; be, and ° the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
* Section 13: .
"SCHOOL POLICE -- AUTHORITY -- OBEDIENCE TO. The Chief of Police shall
appoint from the student bodies of public and private schools 'in the
City, special policemen who shall be designated as "School Police,"
and from the Yakima High School, special policemen who shall b e
designated as "Yakima High School Traffic Control Division,'" all of
whom shall serve without compensation. The special policemen from the
Yakima High School shall be equipped with badges marked "Y.H.S. Traffic
Control,' "' and the special policemen from all other student bodies shall
be equipped with badges marked "School. Police," and all such special
policemen are hereby authorized to direct traffic at school crossings
only. They shall be subordinate to, and obey all orders of, any
police officer of the City.
No driver of any vehicle, or bus, or street car, shall fail to stop
his vehicle bus, or street car when directed so to do by any "School
Police" or "Yakima High School Traffic Control" officer, and no such
driver shall again place such vehicle, bus or street car in motion
until directed, so to do by,, such. "School Police or "Yakima High School
Traffic Control" officer.
Section 2. This ordinance is one to provide for the immediate preservation
of public peace, health, welfare and safety of the people of the City of Yakima; and
an emergency is hereby declared to exist;: and said Ordinance shall be in Ball force
and effect immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by law .
and the City Charter.
PASSED BY THE CITY COMMISSION, signed and approved, this 1'7/th day of
April, 1952.
