Robertson Elementary School Project

Bill Preston, City Engineer - (509) 575-6754
SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
Robertson Elementary School was previously identified by the Yakima School District as a priority
due to safety concerns for students walking along both Englewood Avenue and on Powerhouse
Road. The roadways lack sidewalks, curb and gutter to separate the roadway from the shoulder
of the roads used as walking paths.
The safety improvements for the Robertson Elementary School were identified within the City's
Six -Year Transportation Improvement Program; consisting of marked crosswalks, Rectangular
Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB), ADA curb ramp retrofits, sidewalk with curb and buffer
separation. This project addresses public safety which is one of City Council's strategic
priorities. Under the Department of Transportation for Safe Routes to School program, the City
was selected to receive grant funding for the safety improvements in the amount of $510,000.
This grant does not require a local match.
