man/4s, domestic violence is a crime, affecting people of all races, ages, genders,
and income levels; and
PI Wf!E REAS, one in four persons will experience domestic violence in their lifetime; and
W fiEREAS, more than 15 million children are exposed to domestic violence annually;
and
WW!E1.EAS, this crime violates an individual's privacy, dignity, security and humanity
due to the systematic use of physical; emotional, seNual, psychological and economic control
and abuse; and
`4 IEEREAS, the (YWCA, in partnership with state coalitions, national organizations
and local and regional service agencies, is committed to increasing public awareness of domestic
violence and to eliminating it through outreach and education; and
WifiEREAS, the Yakima City Council supports the (YWCA in its commitment to
eliminating domestic violence and ensuring a safe and healthy community for all our citizens;
WOW ZHEREEORE, in recognition of the impact that domestic violence has on the
health and well -being of our community and its citizens, I Micah Cawley, Mayor or Yakima
and on behalf of the Yakima City Council do hereby proclamation the month of October 2013
as
"DOW SIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS 14Ogvf
in the City of Yakima and I reaffirm the commitment of the City of Yakima to reducing
violence in our homes, in our businesses, and on our streets. I urge all citizens to work together
to eliminate domestic violence from our community.
