YES, it's time to review Yakima County's current government structure.
Our current structure is a default form of government created by the State Legislature over 100 years
ago. Since then, the county population has grown five times larger! Business and population needs have
changed significantly. We need to examine whether the
current system can be adapted to modern needs.
YES to voters having a say in how
government should function.
From voting to start the review process this November to
" k • #7, electing the freeholders to carry the process forward, to
k, having a final say on accepting a Home Rule charter, Yakima
° voters control every step of the process. Allowing voters to
have a say in how government should function is the purest
ds h changed since form of a democracy.
Yak s ne t he 180 YES to greater accountability and more
checks and balances.
Under the current government structure, three commissioners hold both executive and legislative
powers. Home Rule can bring government closer to the people and create better checks and
balances by giving us options such as county-wide ballot measures, an executive branch, a regular
review process, and more.
YES to improving Yakima County government.
With a county twice the size of Delaware and half the population of Wyoming, we need to take a
good hard look at our outdated county government and decide if it isn't time for a change. Good
people can't beat a bad system.
