CITY OF YAKIMA, WASHINGTON
SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
JULY 16, 2002 - 12:30 P.M.

1. ROLL CALL
Present:
Council: Council Members, Lynn Buchanan, Paul George, Larry Mattson,
John Puccinelli, and Bernard Sims
Staff: Dick Zais, City Manager; Glenn Rice, Assistant City Manager; Chris
Waarvick, Public Works Director; Ken Meehan, Transit Manager;
Richard Wonner, Fleet Manager; Rita Anson, Director of Finance
and Budget; and Denise Nichols, Parks and Recreation Manager
Absent: Mayor Mary Place and Council Member Clarence Barnett
2. NEW THOMAS -BUILT BUS TOUR
The City Council members met at City Hall to board one of the four new Thomas
Built buses for a demonstration of the bus's features. The Thomas Built buses
are 35 -feet long, have 28 passenger seats, and a total capacity of 51. One of the
features is the ability of loading wheelchairs through the front door. Staff is
attempting to have all four buses in service before the end of the week.
Included in the bus demonstration was a tour of several city parks and other
facilities: Miller Park, the Gateway to Wine Country site, Kiwanis Park, Caribbean
Casino, Espresso stands along Nob Hill Blvd., the new Armory, Yakima Valley
Community College, Yakima Valley Museum, Kissell Park, Congdon Orchards,
Rosauers, Gailleon Park, Gilbert Park, 40 Avenue /Summitview Assisted Living
Care Center, Chesterley Park and McGuiness Park.
3. ADJOURNMENT
Following the conclusion of the tour, the meeting adjourned at 1:50 p.m.
