ATTEST: Micah C wley, Mayor Ci lerk o Publication Date: October 19, 2012 Effective Date: November 18, 2012 BUSINESS OF THE CITY COUNCIL YAKIMA, WASHINGTON AGENDA STATEMENT Item No. (C For Meeting of: October 16, 2012 ITEM TITLE: An ordinance relating to City administration; repealing Yakima Municipal Code Chapter 10.03, Private Fire Alarm System Connection and Monitoring, on December 31, 2012, in its entirety. SUBMITTED BY: Wayne Wantland, Communications & Technology Manager /911 Director CONTACT Wayne Wantland, 575 -6048 PERSON /TELEPHONE: SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The city has maintained a fire alarm receiving station in the dispatch center and have allowed private enterprises to connect to this system (for a fee) so their fire alarm activations are immediately received by the dispatcher rather than going through a private fire alarm monitoring company. Maintaining the equipment/software and keeping the dispatcher trained on this separate system has become quite onerous on the center and is no longer cost effective for the revenue we receive (Approx $20,000 per year). The appropriate avenue for discontinuing this service is to repeal Chapter 10.03, Private Fire Alarm System Connection and Monitoring, in its entirety.
