Subject: Boards and Commissions Residency Requirements
The following Boards /Commissions do not have residency requirements:
Board of Appeals
Charter City Employees — Civil Service Commission
Community Review Board
DYBID Advisory Board
Hotel /Motel — Tourist Promotion Area (TPA) Commission
Housing Authority Board
Lodging Tax Advisory Committee
Public Facilities District Board
The following Boards /Commissions have residency requirements. Please note, the Air
Terminal Board and Parks and Recreation residency requirement was added by Council in
2010. Additionally, the Police & Fire Civil Service Commission has residency requirements,
which are governed by the State (RCW 41.08.030) and cannot be amended.
AIR TERMINAL BOARD
Appointed by: Two from City Council; two from County Commission; and one selected by four
appointees, jointly approved by City and County.
Residency Requirements: Two members are appointed by the City and two by the County.
City appointments must be a resident of the City of Yakima.
ARTS COMMISSION
Appointed by: City Council
Residency and other Requirements: Voting members shall include: 2 working artists; 4 -6
Community members (3 of which are city residents) 6 agency representatives: Yakima
Symphony, Capitol Theatre, Allied Arts, The Seasons, Larson Gallery, Yakima Valley Museum
and one City Council Member.
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
Appointed by: Mayor with approval of the City Council. -
Residency Requirements: City resident, unless exception granted by Mayor and approved by
Council. The Commission shall always include at least three professionals who have
experience in identifying, evaluating, and protecting historic resources and are selected from
among the disciplines of history, architecture, architectural history, landscape architecture,
historic preservation, planning, folklore, cultural anthropology, prehistoric and historic
archaeology, American studies, curation, traditional building crafts, the practice of historic
rehabilitation or restoration, finance and banking, law, and real estate, or related disciplines.

PLANNING COMMISSION
Appointed by: Mayor and confirmed by City Council
Residency Requirements: Must be a city resident.
POLICE & FIRE - CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
Appointed by: City Manager with Council approval
Residency Requirements: U. S. Citizen, 3 -Year City resident and registered voter by RCW
41.08.030.
SOUTHEAST YAKIMA COMMUNITY CENTER ADVISORY BOARD
Appointed by: City Council based upon recommendations of Operator Board of Directors
Residency Requirements: Must reside within the city limits of Yakima
