R-2020-063 A RESOLUTION authorizing acceptance of grant funding of up to $167,075.00 in COVID-19 response cost reimbursement to benefit the Yakima Police Department from the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP) for BJA FY 20 Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Program. WHEREAS, the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP) has grant funds available to the City of Yakima in the amount of $167,075.00 to cover costs associated with Yakima Police Department COVID-19 response costs; and WHEREAS, the grant authorizes the City to submit requests for cost reimbursement to Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP) for reimbursable costs up to the amount of the grant award; and WHEREAS, this grant will contribute to public safety costs, providing financial assistance for the unbudgeted expenses to Yakima law enforcement efforts attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that public safety is a priority of government and the acceptance of these grant funds will provide financial assistance to the City for the recovery of unbudgeted Yakima Police Department costs resulting from responses to the COVID- 19 pandemic necessitated to protect the health and safety of police officers and the public; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF YAKIMA: The interim City Manager is authorized and directed to execute the attached Agreement with Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), attached hereto and incorporated herein by this reference, and to accept the grant award in the amount of $167,075.00 for reimbursement of costs associated with the Yakima Police Department's responses to the COVID-19 outbreak.
