AN ORDINANCE regulating erection, construction, enlargement, alteration,
repair, moving, removal, conversion, demolition, occupancy,
equipment, use, height, area and maintenance of buildings
and/or structures in the City of Yakima; providing for the
issuance of permits and collection of fees therefor; declar-
ing and establishing fire districts, adopting with certain
exceptions the Uniform Building Code, 1958 Edition; provid-
ing exceptions, penalties for the violation th and
repealing all ordinances and/or parts of ordinances in con-
flict therewith.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:

Section 1. That the Uniform Building Code, 1958 edition,
copyright 1958 by the International Conference of Building Officials, ex-
cept as hereinafter specifically amended or changed, be and the same is
hereby adopted as the Uniform Building Code of the City of Yakima, and the
provisions and regulations thereof are hereby adopted as the provisions and
regulations of the City of Yakima and the several sections or numbers
therein shall constitute the numbers and may be referred to as the num-
bers of this ordinance.
Section 2. The fire zones referred to in Section 1601 (a)
thereof shall be as provided in Ordinance No. B-906 and B-1447.
Section 3. That there is hereby added to Section 1001,
Group E occupancies, the following division relating to bulk oil stor-
age plants:
"Division 6. Bulk oil storage plant shall mean a plant
used for the blending or sale of flammable liquids at wholesale. Earth
or concrete dikes shall be build around such storage plants capable of
containing the fluids of the largest tank plus 10% of the contents of
all other tanks in the plant, in case of damage or fire. Such dikes
are subject to approval by the Fire Marshal."
Section 4. Section 3206 of said Uniform Building Code, 1955
Edition is hereby amended and changed insofar as the same shall apply to
the City of Yakima to read as follows:
"The water from the roof of all buildings which would flow
by gravity over a public sidewalk shall be carried by means of conduc-
tors under the sidewalk and to the storm sewers, or street gutter where
there is no storm sewer. Overflows shall be installed at each low point
of the roof to which the water drains. Concealed roof drainage pipe shall
be installed as required for soil, waste or vent piping.
" Exception: Buildings of Group "I" or "J" occupancies, the
walls of which are ten feet (10 or more from the street property line,
need not comply with-the above provisions.
"Yard drainage shall be to dry wells, or through settling
basins to a storm sewer."
Section 5. Ordinance No. B-1827 passed and approved by the
City Commission on January 23, 1956, and Ordinance No. B-1014 passed and
approved by the City Commission on the 31st day of May 1949, and Ordin-
ance No. B-539 passed on the October 21, 1941, and Resolution No. C-950,
adopted on January 22, 1951, and all ordinances or parts of ordinances
in conflict with this ordinance, are hereby repealed, provided, however,
this ordinance shall not affect any action or proceeding had or commenced
in any civil or criminal cause before this ordinance and its respective
provisions took effect, and any such acts and any such actions or pro-
ceedings may be prosecuted and continued with the same effect and under
the same provisions of the law in effect at the time such act was done
or action or proceeding had or commenced, and any offense declared to be,
an offense in any provisions of the ordinances of this city which are re-
pealed by this act, and the commission whereof have been completed before
the effective date of this act, shall be punishable as provided by the law

in effect at the time of the completion of such acts, without regard
for the fact that such provisions of law have been repealed hereby.
Section 6. Section 2305 of the Uniform Building Code,
1955 Edition, as applied to the City of Yakima, is hereby amended by
the addition thereto of the following paragraph:
"The roofs of all buildings, except greenhouses, lath
houses, and agricultural buildings, shall be so designed
within the stress limitations of this Code: sustain a
minimum live load of thirty (30) pounds per square foot,
combined snow and wind load, in addition to all other
live and dead loads involved in each case."
Section 7. Three copies of said 1958 Edition, Uniform
Building Code of the International Conference of Building Officials,
shall be filed for use and examination by the public in the office of
• the City Building Inspector and any and all subsequent editions, amend-
ments and additions to said code, when printed and filed with the City
Clerk, shall be oonsidered and accepted as official amendments and
additions to such code without further adoption thereof by the City.
Section 8. This ordinance shall be, and is hereby declar-
ed to be in full force and effect thirty (30) days from and after its
final passage and approval and publication, as proveded by the City
Charter.
PASSED BY THE CITY COMMISSION, signed and approved this 5th
day of March, 1958.

violation thereof, and repealing all ordinances and/or parts of ordin-
ances in conflict therewith.," as passed on the 5th day of March, 1958,
and that the same has been published as required by law.
