ORDINANCE NO. B-2245 17 1
AN ORDINANCE amending Ordinance No. B-850, entitled "AN ORDINANCE
to be known as the Electrical Code of the City of
Yakima for safeguarding life and property by regula-
ting the instllation, alteration, repair, use and
operation of electric wires, appliances, apparatus
and devices in or about buildings on private or public
property; providing for the licensing for regulation
and revenue of electrical contractors, dealters and
wiremen; defining approved electrical materials and
appliances; prohibiting the sale or use of unapproved
materials and appliances; providing penalties for the
biolation hereof; repealing Ordinance No.. B-25 of the
City of Yakima and all other ordinances or parts of
ordinances in conflict herewith."
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:,
Section 1. That Section 202 (a) of Ordinance No.
B-850 be amended to read:
(a) A permit may be issued to an owner to do elec-
tkical work in or about his own buildings, provided that the work is
actually performed by said owner or a member of his immediate family,
and provided that, said building is not an industrial or commercial
building, or a multiple dwelling, and provided further that all such
electrical work meets with the approval of the electrical inspector.
On new construction, only one such-permit shall be issued to any one
owner within one calendar yrea.
Section 2. That the following paragraphs be added to
Section 609 of Ordinance No. B
(i) The mintmum service instqllation for a new single
family dwelling shall be as follows:
1. Service conduit from head to panel shall be 14" or
larger, and where same is used as a mast to support power wires, it
shall be 2" or larger.
2. Service conductors shall be three No. 2 wires or 2
No. 2 wires with one No. 4 Neutral, or larger.
3. Minimum size of service panal shall be 100 ampress.
Where the calc ulated load exceeds 20,000 watts, the service panel
shall be of 200 ampere capacity.
4. Minimum number of circuits shall be sixteen single
poles, at least two of which ehall be spares. One wire only shall be
permitted on each screw terminal. Splicing or tapping of wires inside
the panel box is not permitted. Furnace shall be on a separate cir-
cuit.
5. In no case shall the meter base be used to bubfeed
to additional circuits.
6. Total disconnect switches shall be installed where
required by Section 2351 of the National Electrical Code. Double
poling is permitted only where two circuit-breakers are combined to
form one multi-wire circuit.
7. Whenever additional circuits or appliances are in-
stalled in an existing dwelling, if the total load exceeds the capa-
city of the exiat,ing service, a complete new service shall be in-
stalled in accordance with the provisions of this ordinance.
8. Holes dri4ed in studs or plates for the passage
of 12-2 and 14-2 non-metallic cables shall not be larger than five/
eights of an inch. Holes drilled for other sizes of cable and con-
duit shall be not more than one-eighth of an inch larger in diameter
than the cable or conduit.
Section 3. This Ordinance shall be, and is hereby de-
clared to be in full force and effect thirty days from add after its
final passage, approval and publication, as provided by law and the
City Charter.
PASSED BY THE CITY COMMISSION, signed and approved this
4th day of February, 1959.

of ordinances in conflict herewith." as passed on the 4th day of February,
1959, and that the same has been published as required by law.
