ORDINANCE NO. B-2222
AN ORDINANCE directing the City Clerk to call an election for the purpose
of electing seven councilmen who shall constitute the council.;
of the City of Yakima.
WHEREAS, on November 4, 1958, an amendment to the City Char-
ter of, the City of Yakima was duly voted on and approved by the qualified
voters of the City of Yakima, amending Articles II and III of the City
Charter. of Yakima, thereby providing fob the adoption by the City of Yak-
ima of the council-manager form of government, and,
WHEREAS, by said amendments Article;II of the amended Charter
will be effective on and after the first Monday in June, 1959, and Article
III of the amended Charter will become effective from and after the hour of
12 o'clock midnight on December 11, 1958, and,
VVHEREAS, said Article III of the amended Charter provides for
a primary election on the second Tuesday in February, 1959 and a general
election on the second Tuesday in March, 1959, for the election of seven
city councilmen, NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA :
Section 1. The City Clerk of the City of Yakima be and he
• hereby is directed to call the primary ele ction provided for in the amend-
ed Carter of the City of Yakima on the 'econd Tuesday in February, 1959,
and the general election provided for in said amended Charter for the sec-
ond Tuesday in March, 1959, for the purpose of electing seven councilmen
who shall constitute the council of the City of Yakima on and after the
• first Monday in June, 1959, all in the manner required by the constitution
and statutes of the State of Washington and the Charter of the City of Yak.:
ima as amended.
Section 2. The City Clerk be and he hereby is authorized and
directed to notify the public in the manner required by law that filings
for the office of councilman will be received in the manner provided by
law and to post notices of said elections in the manner provided by law,
and to take all steps necessary under law to hold the primary election and
the general election as procided for in said amendments to the Charter of
the City of Yakima.
Section 3. This ordinance is one to provide for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, health and safety of the people of the
City of Yakima and an emergency is hereby declared to exist, and said ord-
inance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its
pass approval and publication as provided by law.
PASSED BY THE CITY COMMISSION, signed and approved this 20th
day of November, 1958.
