HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-B-2160 ORDINANCE NO. B -2160 AN ORDINANCE regulating the use of the Industrial Wastes sewerage sys- tem and providing penalties for the violation thereof. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA: Section 1. In order to provide for the protection of the industrial wastes sewer and disposal facilities, and to insure the safety of the operation of the industrial wastes system, the following substances shall not be discharged into said system: Toxic or hericidal chemical concentrations Waters having a pH below 6.0 or above 8.5 Petroleum products, volatile liquids, and radio active materials Settleable sludges, silts and precipitates Scum forming waxes, paraffin fats, vegetable oils, hair, feathers, and fibers Any specific material hereafter shown to contribute to or cane a deleterious effect on the sewerage system. Any material coarser than the openings in a standard 20 mesh screen Section 2. All wastes discharged into the industrial wastes sewer shall be adequately screened by a 20 mesh or finer screen before discharge, an additional screen, with openings not to exceed 1/4 square, shall be installed in a fixed position so that all material must pass through said screen immediately before entrance into sewer. Section 3. Authorized representatives of the City of Yakima are hereby empowered to, at all reasonable times, enter and inspect all buildings and premises for the purpose of ascertaining whether the pro- visions of this ordinance are being violated. Section 4. Whenever any person, firm, or corporation shall dep ®sit, or shall permit to enter the industrial wastes wewer, any waste containing the substances prohibited in Section 1 hereinatsrove, said per- son, firm, or corporation shall be considered in violation of this ordin- ance. Section 5. Any person, firm, or corporation violating or failing to comply with any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor an on conviction thereof shall be pun- ished by a fine not exceeding three hundred dollars (300.00) or by imprisonment in the City jail for a period not exceeding ninety ( days or by both such fine arjd imprisonment. Section 6. Any person, firm or corporation shall be charg- ed directly any extra expense and costs of operating an maintaining the Industrial Wastes Sewer occasioned by violation of the rules herein prescribed. In the event of failure to comply with this ordinance, the City may cause the wastes service supplied to said premises to be dis- continued or the sewer plugged until provisions to comply are made. Section 7. This ordinance shall become effective 30 days after its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and the City Charter.
