ITEM TITLE: An Appropriation amending the 1997 Tourist Promotion Fund
SUBMITTED BY: Department of Community & Economic Development
CONTACT PERSON/TELEPHONE. Kathy Coffey, Convention Center Manager / 575 -6062
SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
This appropriation request is for $15,000 to cover the cost of increased labor due to the Center
expansion and increased usage of the facility. The cost for this appropriation would come from
the increase in earned revenues which currently are at $41,293.94 YTD or 30% over the revenue
budget.
The Center remained open and fully operational throughout the expansion project. The operation
staff was required to move the office furniture twice, frequently relocate center and kitchen
equipment to make space available to the contractor and repeatedly reclean areas that had been set
up for an upcoming meeting. This was accomplished with few complaints and without giving
rental rebates due to construction interference.
0 Remarkably. we are also experiencing one of the busiest years for delegate counts, have
dramatically increased the event days and recently were able to add Rotary every week to our
already busy schedule.
Attached is an ordinance authorizing the appropriation of $15,000 in the Center management fee
for the additional labor.
