AN ORDINANCE amending the 1998 budget for the City of Yakima; and
making an appropriation of $364,257 in the Transit
Capital Reserve Fund for expenditure during 1998 to
provide for the purchase of replacement buses.
WHEREAS, the amount of $364,257 must be appropriated within the
Transit Capital Reserve Fund in order to provide funding for the purchase of
replacement buses, and
WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the 1998 budget it could not
reasonably have been foreseen that the, appropriation provided for by this
ordinance would be required; and the City Council finds that an emergency
exists of the type contemplated by RCW 35.33.091 and that it is in the best
interests of the City to make the appropriation herein provided, now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA:
Section 1. The amount of $364,257 is hereby appropriated from the
Unappropriated Fund Balance in the Transit Capital Reserve Funds to account
numbers as shown on Schedule I as a 1998 appropriation.
Section 2, This ordinance is one making an appropriation and shall take
effect immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by
law and by the City Charter.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
It is necessary to amend the revenue of the 1998 Transit Capital Reserve Fund budget in
the amount of $291,406. This is additional Federal Transit Administration funds which
have been made available to cover up to 80% of the budgeted expenses associated with the
purchase of replacement buses. This action will bring the Intergovernmental revenue line
item of the 1998 capital budget to $891,406 which can be used for this year's bus purchase. It
is also necessary to amend the expense budget of the Capital Reserve Fund by $364,257 to
• fully fund 100% of the planned bus replacements. This will bring the Operating
Equipment expense line item to $1,114,257 which is available for making 1998 bus
purchases.
