SUBMITTED BY: ' am R. Cook, Director of Community and Economic Development Department , CONTACT PERSON/TELEPHONE: Doug Maples, Code Administration and Planning Manager (509) 575 -6121 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: By this ordinance, the City of Yakima would adopt the State Uniform Building Code WAC 51-42 by reference as provided by statutory authority by RCW 19.27.031 and 19.27.074. Presently before the City Council is the local amendments to the Uniform Mechanical. Since August of 2000, the Council's Community and Economic Development Committee, a group of professionals from the community and staff, have been meeting to update the local amendments to several of the construction codes used in the City of Yakima. There was a Council Study Session held on February 13, 2001, with Council provided direction to make some modifications to some of the local amendments. On May 15, 2001 the City Council approved the local amendments to the Uniform Building Code. Through this process, it was the intent of all parties involved to only have local amendments that were needed because of climatic weather conditions or conditions unique to the local area. Several of the local amendments for these Construction Codes have been eliminated because they were redundant, unnecessary or already addressed within the State 1997 Uniform Building Code.
