The Public Facilities District (PFD) is governed by a seven member board of directors, appointed by the three cities. At the time the PFD was formed, it was understood that once the PFD Board of Directors was established and functioning, that the Board would assume the responsibilities of the Yakima Center Advisory Commission. On Tuesday, July 24, 2001, the PFD Board of Directors held their first meeting; all seven members were present. At this meeting the board elected their officers, established their corporate business office, set the date, time and location of their regular monthly meetings, approved the Lease Agreement and the Development Agreement with the City of Yakima and imposed the .033% retail sales tax. Thus, the PFD Board of Directors is now fully formed and functioning in their capacity as the governing body for the Yakima Regional Public Facilities District. In order to avoid duplication by the Yakima Center Advisory Commission of functions with respect to the Convention Center which are now vested with the PFD Board, it is in the best interest of the City of Yakima to repeal certain sections of the Yakima Municipal Code relating to the Yakima Center Advisory Commission.
