HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-021 Purchase of Emergency Communication Equipment • ORDINANCE NO. 2002- 21 AN ORDINANCE amending the 2002 budget for the City of Yakima; and making appropriations of $17,837 within the 150 - Emergency Services Fund for expenditure during 2002 to purchase grant- funded emergency communication equipment. WHEREAS, the amount of $17,837 must be appropriated within the 150 - Emergency Services Fund for expenditure during 2002 to purchase grant- funded emergency communication equipment, and WHEREAS, at the time of the adoption of the 2002 budget it could not reasonably have been foreseen that the appropriation provided for by this ordinance would be required; and the City Council finds that an emergency exists of the type contemplated by RCW 35.33.091 and that it is in the best interests of the City to make the appropriation herein provided, now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF YAKIMA: Section 1. Appropriations are hereby made, for expenditure during 2002, from the Unappropriated Fund Balance in the 150 - Emergency Services Fund to the various accounts, as specified in Schedule 1 attached hereto and incorporated herein. Section 2. This ordinance is one making an appropriation and shall take effect immediately upon its passage, approval and publication as provided by law and by the City Charter. Cindy Epperson, Financial Services Manager CONTACT PERSON /TELEPHONE: Al Gillespie / 575 -6060 SUMMARY EXPLANATION: The Yakama Nation has established the Community Contribution Fund to provide financial assistance to local law enforcement, emergency medical, traffic and transportation, and other agencies and service providers impacted by activities directly and indirectly associated with the operation of the Nation's gaming facilities at the Yakima Nation Legends Casino. In January, the Yakima Fire Department submitted a grant application in the amount of $17,837 for the purpose of purchasing two -way portable communications equipment for first -line apparatus. The Department's application was presented to and approved by the Yakama Nation's "Community Contributions Committee" in February. This grant will be utilized to replace twenty Motorola HT and MT 1000 radios on first -line apparatus with HT 1250 portable radios with extra battery and Multi-Unit Bank Chargers. Staff respectfully requests that Council approve the attached ordinance which authorizes an appropriation of $17,837 in the Emergency Services budget to be funded 100% by a grant from the Yakama Nation.
