SUMMARY EXPLANATION:
Staff respectfully requests City Council approval of the attached appropriation
Ordinance amending the 2002 Parks and Recreation Capital Budget to accept a
$1.25 million grant from the State of Washington Department of Community, Trade
and Economic Development (CTED). Senator Alex Deccio was instrumental in
bringing this grant to the Yakima community for the purpose of ball field
construction.
The meetings planned for eliciting comments from the public on the Kiwanis Park
Site Master Plan will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at the Yakima Valley
Community College. Please note the attached meeting notice. Prior Council action
has granted the City Manager authority to execute the grant agreement with CTED
when it arrives.
The State will be charging an administrative fee against the grant of 0.085% which
equates to $10,625. This is below their usual rate of 1.25% to 1.75 %.
